Setting Automatic Values for New Estimates

Residential Estimator allows you to set default values for any of the General Information fields and most of the Cost Adjustments fields. Once set, Residential Estimator automatically displays these values in the appropriate fields on the Estimate Data Screens whenever you create a new estimate. You can then either accept these values, or change them to values that are specific to the estimate.

To set new estimate values, do the following:

  1. Select the Customize option in the Tools menu.

  2. Residential Estimator displays the Customization screens. To set new estimate values for the General Information screen, click the General Information tab, then click in the appropriate field in the "New Estimate Value" column (or press the Tab key until the cursor is in that field) and type the new estimate value.

Example: The following sets the State/Province to "CA," the Surveyed By name to "David Grant" and the Survey Date to June 21, 1999:

Whenever you create a new estimate, these values automatically display in the appropriate fields of the General Information screen:

You can change any of these values for individual estimates by clicking in their fields and typing a new value.

  1. To set new estimate values for the Cost Adjustments screen, click the Cost Adjustments tab, then click in the appropriate field, then type the new estimate value. For the Energy, Foundation, etc., Adjustment fields on the right of the screen, select the new estimate value from the drop-down list.

Example: The following sets the Rounding Value to $1000, the Base Date to January 1999, the effective age and depreciation percentage adjustment values to 1, and the adjustment fields to the values displayed.

Whenever you create a new estimate, these values automatically display in the appropriate fields of the Cost Adjustments screen:

You can change any of these values for individual estimates by clicking in their fields and typing or selecting a new value.

  1. When you have completed the customization, close the customization screens by clicking the OK button. Residential Estimator displays the message "Do you want to change the customization changes?" Click one of the following buttons in response to this:

Yes to save the changes and close the Customization screens.

No to discard the changes and close the Customization screens.

Cancel to cancel the close and return to the Customization screens.
