Residential Estimator Options
The Options option in the Tools menu lets you set whether or not to initially display all estimates when you
use several of the File menu options, together with the location of several of the file types used by
Residential Estimator.
To set these options:
- Select the Options option in the Tools menu. The Options screen displays.
- Click the check box at the top of the screen if you do not want to
automatically display all estimates when you use the Open, Archive/Delete, Group Processing and Export options in the File menu, and the Category Maintenance option in the Tools menu:
If you have a large number of estimates, it may take some time to load them
into Residential Estimator so that they can be listed. In such cases, check this
check box so that no estimates are listed when you select any of the File options listed above until you enter search parameters.
- You can change the location of any of the following file types:
- Cost Data: The Marshall & Swift cost database (MSREdata.mdb).
- User Data: The database that contains the estimate you save, together with any
customization and options you have set for the program (MSREUser.mdb).
- Log Files: The log files created by the Delete/Archive, Group Processing, Import and Export options in the File menu.
- Import Files: Text files that you want to import into Residential Estimator (you can also
change this location when using the Import option).
- Export/Archive Files: Text files containing estimates you have exported or archived (you can also
change this location when using the Export and Delete/Archive options).
To change a file type location, click on the name of the type to change, then
click the Modify button:
When the following displays, use it to select a new location for the file
type, then click the Save button:
- Click the Close button. When the message "Do you want to save the option changes?" displays,
click one of the following buttons:
Yes to save the changes and close the Options screens.
No to discard the changes and close the Options screen.
Cancel to cancel the close and return to the Options screen.
