Residential Estimator Menus and Toolbar
The Residential Estimator has three menus, accessed using the main menu bar
displayed at the top of the screen whenever you are using the program. In
addition, key functions of the program are available using the toolbar directly below
the menu bar:
You can select a menu option in either of the following ways:
- Mouse: Click on the menu name in the main menu bar, then click on the menu option
desired.
Example: To select the File menu Open option, click on File, then click on Open.
- Keyboard: Hold down and press the underlined letter of the menu desired (F for File, T for Tools and H for Help) followed by the underlined letter of the menu item desired (e.g., in the File menu, N for New, P for Print, E for Export, etc.).
Example: To select the Open option in the File menu, hold down the Alt key then press the F key then press the O key.
The three menus available in Residential Estimator are:
- File Menu: Use this menu to create, open, close, save, preview and print individual
estimates, and to delete, archive, process (calculate and/or print), import and
export one or more saved estimates, and to exit Residential Estimator.
- Tools Menu: Use this menu to customize data entry and reports, set program options,
maintain export templates, to set the program version, to register the program and
for periodic database maintenance.
- Help Menu: Use this menu to get help about the use of Residential Estimator.
Note: Not all options in the menus are available at all times. When an option is
not available, its name is grayed out in the menu. For example, when you are not
working on an estimate, the New, New (Wizard) and Open options in the File menu are available, but the Close, Save and Save As options are not:
The buttons on the toolbar are:
Create a new estimate using the Estimate Data Screens (New option, File menu)
Create a new estimate using the wizard (New (Wizard) option, File menu)
Open a saved estimate (Open option, File menu)
Save the currently open estimate (Save option, File menu)
Close the currently open estimate (Close option, File menu)
Print a report for the currently open estimate (Print option, File menu)
Preview a report for the currently open estimate (Preview option, File menu)
Display the calculator (Calculator option, Tools menu)
