Log Files
The Delete/Archive, Group Processing, Import and Export options in the File menu all produce log files as they perform their functions. These files are
standard text files and are typically located in the folder Temp (which itself
is located in the folder in which you installed Residential Estimator),
although you can specify their location using the Options option in the Tools menu.
The file names are:
- Delete/Archive: DeleteLog.txt
- Group Processing: ProcessLog.txt
- Import: ImportLog.txt
- Export: ExportLog.txt
You can view these files from outside Residential Estimator using any text
editor (such as Windows Notepad or WordPad). From within the program, you can
view them in either of the following ways:
- By clicking the View Log button on the Delete/Archive, Group Processing, Import or Export screens when using any of these File menu options.
Example:
- By selecting the View Log option in the Tools menu, which displays a submenu with a choice of the four log file types:
Either of these displays the following:
You can scroll through the log file using the vertical scroll bar at the right
side of this window. You can also print the log file by selecting the Print
option in the Notepad’s File menu.
When you have finished viewing the errors, click on Notepad’s close button (
).
