Adding a Component

You can add a component to the component grid on the Component screen either by direct entry of the component number or by component search/lookup.

Direct Entry

If you know the component number, click in the Code column of the first blank row of the component grid, type the number, then press the Tab, Enter or Right Arrow key. Residential Estimator automatically displays the component’s name and construction system in the second and third columns of the component grid. See the Worksheet Reference section of the User Guide or the help system for lists of available components, together with descriptions of each.

Search/Lookup

Use the construction system and available components display areas at the top of the screen to search for components as follows:

  1. Click on the desired construction system. Residential Estimator highlights the system selected, and displays all components available for that system. Example for exterior walls:

  1. If you need a description of a component while searching, click on its name to highlight it, then press the F1 key.

  2. To add a component, click on it to highlight it, then click the Add button (or double click on the component). Residential Estimator copies the component code to the component grid, displaying its code, name and construction system in the first three columns of the grid.
